CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Categories of membership are established and defined as follow:

 

1.MEMBER:

1.1. Persons holding a Certificate of Competency as Master (Special Grade) or Master, Chief Mate or Deck Officer endorsed for “Management Level” or Master (limited to mining operations) or their equivalents.

1.2. Persons holding an unlimited Open Marine Pilot License or their equivalent issued by a port authority.

1.3. Persons holding a Certificate of Competency as Skipper (Fishing ≥ 24m) Unlimited or their equivalents.

.4. Officers of the South African Navy or any Foreign Navy of Lieutenant Commander rank and above who may be considered eligible by the Executive Committee of the Society.

2.ASSOCIATE MEMBER:

2.1. Persons holding a Certificate of Competency as Deck Officer endorsed for “Operational Level” or Deck Officer (limited to mining operations) or their equivalents.

2.2. Persons holding a Certificate of Competency as Skipper (Limited) or Deck Officer (Fishing ≥ 24m) or their equivalents.

2.3. Officers of the South African Navy or any Foreign Navy of Lieutenant rank and above who may be considered eligible by the Executive Committee of the Society.

3.STUDENT MEMBER:

Persons undertaking a course of initial maritime education or training as considered eligible by the Executive Committee of the Society.

4.AFFILIATE MEMBER:

Persons who wish to be associated with the activities of the Society and who have qualifications or experience conducive to furthering the objectives of the Society.

5.HONORARY MEMBER:

Persons closely connected to the Society or the seafaring community or who have provided a service to the Society or a Branch of the Society. A Branch Committee may motivate and propose candidates for Honorary Membership to the Executive Committee for their approval. At every National Annual General Meeting of the Society the list of Honorary Members will be reviewed.
